Bluemove royalties: calculating creator and seller payments
Creator royalties are the NFT creator's share of a sale under the applicable royalty terms. In BlueMove's Aptos and Sui marketplace context, estimating seller proceeds also requires the marketplace fee, the calculation base for each charge, and the party that pays it. Blockchain gas is accounted for separately.
How much does the seller retain?
Under the hypothetical deductions below, the seller retains 177 APT before gas, and the creator receives 7.5 APT.
Assume a completed Aptos NFT resale with a hypothetical gross price of 187.5 APT, a hypothetical creator royalty of 4%, and a hypothetical marketplace fee of 1.6%. Both percentages apply independently to the gross price, and both charges are deducted from the sale payment before the seller receives the remainder. Gas is excluded from these amounts.
| Payment | Calculation | Amount in APT |
|---|---|---|
| Creator royalty |
187.5 * 4 / 100
|
7.5 |
| Marketplace fee |
187.5 * 1.6 / 100

| Seller proceeds before gas |
187.5 - 7.5 - 3
|
177 |
If only the hypothetical royalty rate changes to 6%, the creator payment becomes 11.25 APT, and the seller retains 173.25 APT before gas. The marketplace fee remains 3 APT because its rate and calculation base have not changed.
This division applies only while both charges come out of the same gross payment. A royalty charged to the buyer on top of the price requires a different calculation of the buyer's total cost.
Is the marketplace fee the creator's royalty?
The 2% marketplace fee that BlueMove quoted in its AMA with PancakeSwap, published on February 9, 2023, concerned the Aptos NFT marketplace. The team treated blockchain gas as a separate cost. That historical marketplace percentage does not establish a collection's royalty rate or the current fee for an NFT sale on either network.
The AMA also described marketplace-fee rewards for iMOVE holders under a MOVE staking arrangement. Those distributions concern a share of marketplace fees, separate from the royalty allocated to an NFT's creator.
Who pays a royalty under Sui Kiosk rules?
For an NFT trade that uses Sui Kiosk, creators can set royalty requirements through TransferPolicy rules. The buyer pays fees that the applicable policy requires, and a purchase cannot complete unless the policy's conditions are satisfied. This is a reason to identify who pays a charge before subtracting it from the seller's proceeds.
These are rules for Kiosk-based trades on Sui. BlueMove's Sui marketplace context alone does not establish that a particular collection uses Kiosk or identify its royalty policy. Aptos sales require their own applicable settlement terms.
Which sale details change the estimate?
The payment asset, royalty recipient, rate, and calculation base must match the particular NFT sale. Establish whether each charge is deducted from the sale price or added to the buyer's payment. If a charge uses the amount remaining after another deduction, the gross-price formula in the example must change.
The seller's amount before gas also differs from the amount after any gas that the seller pays. A calculated royalty expresses an amount under stated assumptions; it does not establish that the creator has received that payment.
